HAITIAN AWARENESS WEEK SCHEDULED FOR MAY 12 THROUGH MAY 18

ROCKVILLE CENTRE - In commemoration of the Haitian Flag Day, "18 Mai," The Haitian American Apostolate Ministry of the Diocese of Rockville Centre in conjunction with the Haitian American Family of Long Island and other organizations is sponsoring a Haitian Awareness Week for May 12th through May 18th.
The week will open with Bishop William Murphy celebrating Mass at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 12th at St. Agnes Cathedral here. An Evening Prayer for Peace and Unity will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15th at Eglise Baptiste de la Pierre Angulaire in Huntington Station, and another prayer service will be conducted at St. Matthew Church in Brooklyn to promote the World day of Prayer and Unity for Haiti on Saturday, May 18th before the start of the Unity Parade in Brooklyn.
Other events include morning and evening cultural programs at Brentwood High School, Elmont High School and St. Boniface School in Elmont, opportunities to visit the Haitian American Apostolate Ministry Office in Freeport as well as programs offered by the Haitian American Family of Long Island, and an evening of entertainment at a restaurant in Westbury. A closing celebration is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday, May 18th in the auditorium of St. Pius X in Uniondale.
